As compared to the other printers by Brother, the Brother MFC-8820D is faster and much heavier than the others. It can print up to 17 pages per minute which is a bit slower than others in the Brother range. But, just like the other printers from Brother it also has laser printing capabilities, serves as a copier, scanner and fax machine.
It is perfect for home or small offices as it’s a heavy duty printer weighing about 40 pounds.
Despite the less than stellar print speed, it has excellent print resolution with 2400 x 600 dpi and the fax speed is 33.6 per second with the help of its built in modem. Due to the fast modem it can send and receive information in about two seconds a page, which is about 30 pages every minute.
It has a built in memory of 32 MBs which can save up to 300 destinations for automatic dialing and it has the ability to broadcast a fax to 390 locations in one go. The other features that are included in this printer are fax forwarding, fax paging, remote retrieval, a duplex fax mode, a 50 sheet multi-purpose tray, network capability, a second paper tray, USB and parallel ports and much more.
The Brother MFC-8820D can function with all Windows and Mac software. The copier of this machine also gives top notch and clean results with a resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch. The user can make double sided copies and it can zoom in 25% to 400%.
Although it is bulky to look at it does output high quality. It’s perfect to use in a small office where there are few employees working as it’s very easy to operate and very cost effective. It has a digital paper counter that tells you the number of copies made and faxes received.
The only negative points of this machine is again its bulky size, as it would need to be set in a location with enough room. However it’s a very small negative point and one most multifunction users will be familiar with. It’s economical when it comes to ink and toner usage, so this makes it a great all-rounder for a home or small office environment.
